Toyota/Scion of Des Moines Flower Power 5K to benefit Des Moines Botanical Center
What the Toyota/Scion of Des Moines Flower Power 5K is doing to be more 'Green-Friendly':- The Des Moines Botanical Center is working towards a new goal of not only introducing patrons to plants from around the world, but to educate and advocate for a "green" lifestyle that focuses on recycling, sustainable and alternative energy sources and environmentally responsible choices.
- Distributing potted plants to race participants to take home.
- Collecting used running shoes for recycling at race check-in.
- Promoting the environmental education programs at the Des Moines Botanical Center.
- Favoring e-mail correspondence over paper.
- Recycling plastic waste generated at the race.
- Dahl's Foods has donated 200 green, reusable grocery bags to hold our participant's race packets and T-shirts at race registration.
About the Toyota/Scion of Des Moines Flower Power 5K:
Follow a scenic route along the river and through downtown Des Moines' charming East Village. Finish at the Des Moines Botanical Center and enjoy post-race refreshments and music from the 1970s courtesy of KGGO-FM95. Wear your grooviest '70s attire! Elite technical running shirts from Brooks Sports will be given to the first 200 entrants.
