About the John Muir "Trail Run Challenge" and Earth Day / Birthday Celebration:
The Trail Run is set within the 2843-acre Carquinez Strait Regional Shoreline Park, as a challenging and fast 6.2 mile, fire roads course with 1500'+ elevation gain and descending. The Trail Run is part of the John Muir Earth Day Festival and Birthday Celebration held at his home, the John Muir National Historic Site in Martinez, CA.
John Muir was passionate about nature and dedicated to preserving our natural treasures. In recognition of his life, his work and his vision, we celebrate his birthday (April 21st). John Muir was a life-long adventurer who explored many wild and wonderful places. He shared the majesty and mystery of these places in his prolific writings to inspire us to cherish and preserve our magnificent Earth. In this spirit, we celebrate Earth Day.
