The Manitoba Marathon

What The Manitoba Marathon is doing to be more 'Green-Friendly':
  • Print materials are all FSC certified.
  • Compostable cups at water stations along the course (140,000+).
  • Compostable plates, knives, forks, and cups at the pre-race pasta party.
  • Sorting stations located at the University of Manitoba stadium which diverted 95% of our waste from landfills in 2007.
  • Working in conjunction with scout groups to educate them about sustainability before they assist our Greenteam on Race Day
  • Hybrid vehicles to be used for lead vehicles.
  • Recycling along the course and at the University of Manitoba.
  • Busing large volunteer groups to the University of Manitoba Stadium to reduce emissions.
  • Hoping to plant trees in conjunction with Tree Canada to offset the Carbon Footprint from the 2008 event.

About the The Manitoba Marathon:

We offer a delightful, "runner-approved", beautiful, flat, fast, and shaded course through many of Winnipeg's loveliest residential neighborhoods.

Our course has a great history, going back to 1980, the 2nd year of the Manitoba Marathon. It has been the site of past Canadian Marathon and Masters Championships as well as the site of the 1999 Pan American Games Marathons. On your run, we'll take great care of you! Music along the course, our 2000 volunteers with their "Miles of Smiles", great Hospitality Stations (26 of them for the 26.2 mile Marathon), and all the craziness of the four Relay Exchange Zones that you will pass through on the course, make this race festive and enjoyable.

This is a race where an elevation map isn't needed - with a maximum elevation change of 3 meters (10 feet); well, look at your table top and that's what you'll get! The Manitoba Marathon course is certified and is a qualifier for many other marathons.
