The Portland Marathon

What the Portland Marathon is doing to be 'Green-Friendly': Are we green? We try to be, we:
  • Do not use plastic water bottles (Portland's water is too good).
  • Recycle and separate as much as we can.
  • Contribute to certain environ-friendly local entities.
  • Use cups and balloons made of the right stuff.

Portland with its trolley and light rail systems is the perfect place where a person from out of town can come and never have to rent a car (70 percent are out-of-towners). You name it and we try to do it right and give participants the best event they will ever have at a true destination point. We also give each finisher a tree seedling!

About the Portland Marathon:

RUNNER'S WORLD has called the Portland Marathon "the best people's marathon in the West" and for the past ten years has ranked it as one of the top 10 or 15 marathons in the country. RUNNER'S WORLD also states that "perhaps more than any other running event in the country, this race keeps evolving, keeps getting better".

30 percent of runners get PRs because the last 8 miles are slightly downhill. With a special program in place, they are able to call the names of 96 percent of the finishers as they cross (this year, we’ll do it at about midway, too).
