Yuengling Shamrock Marathon, Half-Marathon and 8K
What the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon is doing to be more 'Green-Friendly':- Distributing reusable cloth goody bags for the race in 2008, which will eliminate plastic waste after the participants empty their goody bag.
- We have been in contact with a company to collect and recycle our water bottles at our finish line.
- A local food bank is coming to our finish line to take any of the unwanted finisher's food.
- We will have a running shoe donation area at the finish line where we can donate old shoes to Soles 4 Souls.
- We are looking at using recyclable Runner’s World bags for our finisher food bags
- In 2008, we hope to print our applications on recycled paper and become even more green.
About the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon:
This course is guaranteed to be fast and festive. Enjoy the course as you pass by the beautiful resort area of Virginia Beach and continue through Fort Story and pass Cape Henry Lighthouse, the country's oldest lighthouse. You will spot many leprechauns along the way as well as music and great support through water stop competitions. Runners and walkers will start together. All athletes will be lined up based on their estimated finish time. The Yuengling Shamrock Marathon is a (2009) Boston qualifier. Along with running the marathon on Sunday, we encourage those runners who want to go the extra mile (or 4.97 miles to be exact) to take on the Whale Challenge by running the 8K on Saturday, March 15. Runners who are interested in this challenge must mail in their registration, as there is no online registration for this event. The Marathon course is open for 7 hours, which is a 16:02 per mile pace. Race limit is 3,000. For more information: www.shamrockmarathon.com .
